‘Parkgate’ is the exciting new mixed-use development scheme that will bring new shops and homes to Shirley Town Centre.
Following extensive Community Consultation in 2004/5, the ‘New Heart for Shirley’ scheme obtained planning permission in September 2006 and, following a Public Inquiry in May 2008, a Compulsory Purchase Order was confirmed in December 2008.
A new planning permission is now required after some changes have been made to the scheme and expiry of the previous consent. This website shows the latest plans for the ‘Parkgate’ scheme and provides the opportunity for you to ‘Have your Say’ about the changes that have been made.
A detailed planning application for this scheme will then be submitted to Solihull Council.
‘Parkgate’ will provide:
- About 20 new shops in an ‘open’, pedestrian friendly environment alongside an ASDA superstore and some cafes and restaurants
- Residential townhouses and apartments (including 40% affordable housing) as well as retirement living apartments
- Half a million pounds worth of improvements to Shirley Park
- 500 basement car parking spaces, which will be free of charge for all visitors
- High quality Public Realm with lighting and CCTV throughout
- Public toilets and a Shopmobility facility
- Improvements to The Royal British Legion and First Shirley Scout Group HQ
- Significant improvements to the roads in the surrounding area
